the monkees 1968 movie was described as "a hard day's night on acid". personally, i didnt find it that mind-blowing
or wierd, but i kinda took it at face value instead of trying to think about it. then again, i had just watched magical mystery
tour right before it so it would seem logical comparatively i suppose. davy, micky, mike, and peter all run around in strange
costumes and have several dream sequences and stories within stories. it can be a little confusing to follow at times, but
at the end it all makes sense (esp. after peter's speech about reality and imagination). if you've seen magical mystery tour
i think it makes sense because you see the guy overpowering the whole thing (victor mature) as being like the magicians in
mmt. i thought mike's birthday party scene was the hardest to understand, mostly because there were lots of little things
that didnt seem to agree with the rest of the story. the beginning scene with the kissing was a bit random too (and i must
say the kissing wasnt very passionate~ they had more heavy kisses on their tv show!). daddy's song is fairly annoying as a
song, except for the fact that it was written by Nilsson, but davy's dancing is lovely! and then comes the awesome part with
frank zappa and a talking cow. to me it just seems like the kind of thing you would have to put with frank zappa (a talking
cow). i suggest you see it but i dont think it really matters how long you have been a fan, because the whole thing is a very
obvious rebellion against their image and just people being silly.
